SS14 marked my first Desigual show, and their Mercedes Benz Fashion Week debut. La Vida es Chula, or Life is Cool, was the (fitting) premise, and both the models and clothing brought me so much joy. Florals and prints filled with bursts of color infused spring and the Mediterranean sunshine. Male and female models flirted with one another, and the crowd, while cheekily blowing kisses, winking and dancing down the runway. The psychedelic prints shifts, dual printed outerwear, separates and fun accessories gave me mod hippie. I particularly swooned over a peach and cream polka dotted tuxedo jacket; they took a formal staple, and breathed life into it with dots and a bold hue. Refreshingly, there was no shortage of model diversity, as that’s been a major issue of concern of late.
I’ve attended many a fashion show, and they can be a bit redundant. Not to say that I enjoy them any less, as I am a TRUE fashion enthusiast; however, Desigual’s show reminded me of why I love fashion. Fashion is fun form of expression, and you feel most alive when you’re able to express yourself freely. Their goal was to, “capture the essence of the good life,” which they certainly succeeded in doing. I rocked to the mixed beats the entire show, and allowed Desigual to transport me to a happy, colorful and eternally youthful (and fashionable) place.
