Resort 2012 Collections: ADAM

ADAM by Adam Lippes is one of my favorites from this resort season because it’s everything a resort collection should be. It’s small yet straightforward. Clean lines and cool colors make this collection a minimalist’s dream. Everything is easy and wearable, but not fussy or boring in the slightest. I love the rich color palette, which includes a beautiful cobalt blue, mint green, nude, and an ample amount of black and white. The geometric patterns are nice, clean, and stylish. Overall, a refreshingly classic, yet modern collection.

Resort 2012 Collections: Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony

I can either love or loathe most celebrity fashion lines. My favorites tend to be the ones that really reflect that celebrity’s personal aesthetic and persona as opposed to the ones where a famous name is just slapped on someone else’s creations (and the celebrity in question just shows up for press and pictures). Some favorites that continue to grow and improve include Kate Moss x Topshop, Erin Wasson x RVCA, and Chloe Sevigny x Opening Ceremony.
For Resort season, Chloe Sevigny decided to show her collection on the runway for the first time, unlike her previous collaborations with Opening Ceremony. This collection builds on that 90s club kid/street aesthetic that still resonates within her personal style. Sevigny has said that this collection is a balance between good and evil, light and dark… this is evident in those black and white lace pattern laser cut leather skirts and frocks that dominated the runway.
This collaboration with Opening Ceremony also features collaboration with eighties skate brand Vision Street Wear, who helped create some of the jackets and sweats in the line. It’s a collaboration within a collaboration, if you will (is you mind blown yet?).
So overall, I really commend Sevigny for taking her line to another level yet again by including a wide range of styles and fabrics in one cohesive and fun collection.

New York Fashion Week – Fall 2011: Diane Von Furstenburg

Diane Von Furstenburg is all about woman empowerment so there was no surprise to see her collection entitled; “American Legends” reflecting this very theme. The collection featured wide-brimmed hats, fringed suede boots, silk button-downs with contrast tipping and gaunchos with gold snaps. Furstenburg really pushed the envelope with this collection which really emulated the fearless and confident woman. Eccentric prints and bolds were the front-runners of this collection. So to all you ladies who adore the minimalist look – this collection is not for you! One of the most eye-popping pieces in this collection was the aloe green vest paired with a misty green charmeuse blouse and green pants – here’s that for color! But the finale piece was truly the whole collection summed up into one — confidence! The last piece was a sequined dress which not just any woman could wear; this dress is for the confident woman who is not afraid to hold her own. Great job, Ms. Furstenburg!

Designer Dish: Furi Design

While I was in New York for fashion week, I had time to slip in a visit to Furi Design’s NYC showroom. This was probably one of my favorite parts of the trip, because I got to preview their Fall 2011 collection up close and personal. Everyone I dealt with was so nice, considering I was late because I went to a completely wrong location at first and had to backtrack to the Garment District. Oops!
Furi Design is a fairly new, Montreal-based label, designed by Susan Gauvin and Steven Lee, that originally focused on making outerwear but has since branched into creating everyday RTW separates. The Furi aesthetic is minimalist and for the fashion and quality conscious, but not for those who need to keep up every trend the minute it’s introduced. Each piece can easily be dressed up or down to according to your personal style. These pieces are timeless, the kind that you keep forever. Furi emphasizes clean lines and silhouettes, and their knack for detail rivals no other. I wish there was a way I could convey in words how amazing the fabrics and colors are, but my pictures will have to do. In fact, my pictures don’t even do these pieces justice. The folks at Furi let me try on some outerwear samples, and let me tell you, it was hard to take them off. They were so comfortable and flattering and luxuriously soft. The jackets and coats are made out of a pure virgin wool and have linings like the inside of a man’s suit jacket. The tops, dresses and skirts are made out of a cotton wool blend, which Furi describes “as soft as a sweatshirt, but as stylish and classic as a little black dress.”
These are the pictures from my visit to Furi’s showroom, and yours truly attempting to rock the outerwear.

Fashion Week Roundup – Fall 2011: Model Off-Duty Style

When ‘Fashion Month’ comes about twice a year, we are undeniably put into fashion overload mode as we religiously stalk the runways for the latest fashion from the four fashion capitals of the world. While the catwalks are always a sight and excite my stylish little heart, I am always interested to see how the beloved “hangers” aka models showcase their off-duty personal style when they’re not modeling the clothes that we continue to lust over. For the F/W 2011 season, it seems as if the models knew the world was watching because their ensembles were nothing short of glamourous and impeccable. My absolute favorite model this season for off-duty style would hands down be: Abbey Lee Kershaw – She KILLED it with her looks. She just might be deserving of her own separate post. Do you have any models whose personal style you love?
