Hey lovies.. I planned to start posting again today but unfortunately with that, I have sad news to report. I’m sure by now you have heard the devastating news of the sudden and tragic loss of designer great, Alexander McQueen. He was definitely a rare gem to the industry and I’m really saddened to have him leave us so soon. His legacy will forever carry on through his brilliant work. His design aesthetic was truly one of a kind. My prayers and condolences are with his family and close friends at this very sad time.

Via The New York Times –

Nonnie Moore, who as fashion editor of Mademoiselle, Harper’s Bazaar and later the men’s magazine GQ brought an eclectic mix to the fashion pages and nurtured budding designers who became famous, died in Manhattan on Thursday. She was 87 and lived in Manhattan.

The cause was complications of a choking accident, her son Thomas said.

Ms. Moore — a tall, slim woman who adorned herself with elegant and sometimes bohemian-style jewelry — got her start as a secretary at Mademoiselle in 1950. She rose to fashion editor by 1970 and held that position until 1980, when she became fashion editor at Harper’s Bazaar. Four years later, in what seemed like an unusual move, she became fashion director for GQ.

“She was not from men’s wear, so people said she was an odd choice, but she was actually the perfect choice,” said Jim Moore, who is now the creative director for GQ and who worked with Ms. Moore for nine years.

Mr. Moore, who is not related to his former boss, said in an interview on Monday that before Ms. Moore came to GQ “the pages had been filled with a more casual look.”

“She helped dress up the pages, as well as dress up the men,” he said, “while making the mix more exciting and varied and approachable for men.”

Wendy Goodman, the design editor at New York magazine, said: “Everywhere Nonnie went she discovered new fashion designers. She would go the extra mile to some little studio in Paris and find the person who was making something new.” Among the designers Ms. Moore promoted early in their careers were Perry Ellis and Issey Miyake, Ms. Goodman said.

“Nonnie was quick to pick up how important Miyake was before most people really understood his work,” Ms. Goodman said. “She saw how inventive he was, doing more abstract, silhouette fashion; making art statements instead of following the contours of the body. She championed his work and that of so many up-and-coming designers.”

Born Marjorie Eilers on Jan. 21, 1922, in Plainfield, N.J., Ms. Moore was one of two daughters of Henry and Lovinia Burton Eilers. Nonnie was a childhood nickname that she used for the rest of her life. She is survived by another son, Peter; her sister, Dossie Thayer; and two grandchildren. Her husband of 38 years, Thomas L. Moore, died in 1990.

In 1994, Ms. Moore received a lifetime achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Thirteen years earlier, The New York Times wrote that until she arrived, “Harper’s Bazaar was looking a little dowdy.” Because of her, it said, “The clothes in the editorial pages are brighter, younger and more stylish.”
