New York Fashion Week – Fall 2011: Marc by Marc Jacobs

For this fall season Marc Jacobs decided to mix in a bit of seventies and forties trends; the show steered away from Marc’s original persona which is usually flamboyant to a more grown-up edge. Some of the eye catching looks in this season were Marc’s fox-collared trench and an A-line blanket coat which would have done wonders on an actress in an old vintage Hollywood film. The feeling of the forties era came on full force when chevron-patterned velvets, a corduroy suit with a belted jacket, a sweater dress, and satin shorts with a matching top came staggering down the runway! Ankle socks paired with heels also brought out the forties feel for the upcoming fall season.
The Marc by Marc Jacobs fall collection wouldn’t be complete without adding a little more edge to the collection and so it was done. The collection highlighted the fierce 70’s by featuring a metallic leather jacket and culottes, a jade green silk dress, and a printed silk jumpsuit – that’s the Marc by Marc Jacobs brand we know and love! But as usual, Jacobs designed a collection that appeals to the masses including the younger generation. This is astounding because when the younger generation, hear “40’s” they automatically think a boring conservative look! And for “70’s” it’s usually, this look has been done! But Jacobs found a way to make these looks fresh, chic, and classic like only he can.

THE JUICE: JACOBS & BECKHAM MAKE FASHION MAGIC
Marc Jacobs is one of my favorite designers. Victoria Beckham is one of my favorite fashionistas. So you can only imagine my uber excitement when I read with my two bugged out eyes that it was confirmed by Mr. Jacobs himself that these two amazingly fashion forward guru’s were joining forces. Mrs. Beckham aka Posh Spice will be the lovely face of Marc’s Spring 2008 Ad Campaigns. [ insert loud screams here ] I figured something had to be up – Mrs. Beckham was all over Marc’s fashion week show back in September. I am so excited for this collabo. Victoria is so fierce with her fashion game. It’s almost sickening. I just KNOW she rocked the AD’s like only she could.
“She was a great sport. She agreed to do something rough and tough and quite raw. It wasn’t days and days of hair and makeup.” Marc tells WWD that the campaign, shot by regular contributor Juergen Teller, depicts Victoria amid giant Marc Jacobs gift boxes and shopping bags, an allusion to the marketing of celebrities. Turns out that Posh was game for anything, no matter how offbeat the idea seemed. The designer says that his favorite images show Posh popping out of a box or with her head buried in a shopping bag. “She was like, ‘I totally get it and I’m totally into it,” Jacobs said. “She has an amazing sense of humor about herself….She just gave herself over to it.”
