New York Fashion Week – Fall 2011: Rebecca Minkoff

Luxury handbag designer, Rebecca Minkoff is only on her second go-round of designing her ready-to-wear collection but she is already handling the task like a pro. Back in the spring 2011 season, Minkoff opted for an intimate fashion presentation, which we covered here but for fall 2011, she decided to go with her first live runway show at the Theater in Lincoln Center. The ambiance of the venue was calming as attendees were treated to the sounds of a live band tucked away on the side of the runway. When the lights finally went down and the bright spotlight focused, the first look was a wooly black and bone colored shearling jacket (that would be absolutely perfect for this beyond chilly weather) paired with black cigarette pants and surely a RM clutch. As the looks continued to come down the runway, you could clearly begin to see the inspiration of the collection come to life. It was noted that Minkoff drew inspiration from American model, Charlotte Kemp Muhl and she played on the theme of the modern urban gypsy. The mission was accomplished thanks to the mixed pairings (often unexpected but worked) of textures of tweeds and leather with chiffon as well as sequin numbers. Minkoff is clearly developing her signature aesthetic with her RTW line that embodies both sophisticated edginess and fine tailoring. I lusted after all 31 looks and could easily see myself wearing each piece separately or as modeled on the runway. Minkoff clearly has her finger on the modern, sexy, free-spiriting woman and what she should be wearing. –And we hope she doesn’t let go anytime soon.

Major Bite: Rebecca Minkoff Introduces Ben Minkoff Collection

Rebecca Minkoff Introduces Ben Minkoff Collection – Spring 2011
Crafted as a study in classic Americana, Ben Minkoff marries modern practicality with mid-century ruggedness. Introduced in Spring 2011, the collection is inspired by the iconic military heritage of my grandfather who was a World War II fighter pilot. Incorporating military design elements into masculine silhouettes, Ben Minkoff blends nostalgia and modernity; functionality and style. This collection seamlessly incorporates into the lifestyle of a dynamic, hardworking man.
The Ben Minkoff collection synthesizes a unique blend of classic fabrications creating a new twist on the familiar. We have scoured the globe for the highest quality genuine leathers, rugged waxwear, selvedge denims, and custom hardware in each piece of the hand-crafted collection. Taking extra care for each piece, these classic styles will withstand the test of time in both style and durability. Equal attention is paid to interior and exterior detailing throughout the design process resulting in a perfect synergy of function, relevance and sophistication.

New York Fashion Week Spring 2011: Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff has slowly yet easily become one of my favorite handbag designers that I anticipate to see more from each season. For her Spring 2011 presentation, Rebecca went big-time and had a lovely space set up in Lincoln Center’s Box with approximately 25 models (including the stunning Rumi of Fashion Toast) showing off her amazing first full-range collection including clothing and shoes — and of course her signature handbags.

Rebecca Minkoff | Exclusive Saks Fifth Avenue Collection
Uber fab handbag designer, Rebecca Minkoff is designing an exclusive high-end line for Saks Fifth Avenue. The new spring collection will range in price from $550-$2000+ dollars. From the preview photos, it appears that a majority of the handbags will be studded out. The citrine colored drawstring bag and black studded clutch have my name all over it. Love!
